Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain has told the parliament that 10,000 houses are lying abandoned across the country except in Barisal division.
Responding to a query, the minister on Monday said there are 10,313 abandoned houses across the country but there is no such house in Barisal division.
Mosharraf said there are 6467 houses in Dhaka and Narayanganj districts, 228 houses in Rajshahi district, seven in Natore district, 16 in Chapai Nawabganj, 30 in Naogaon, 123 in Pabna, 13 in Sirajganj, 280 in Bogra, one in Jaipurhat, 1363 in Khulna, one in Bagerhat, 92 in Jessore, 507 in Kushtia, 27 in Chuadanga, 353 in Chittagong, three in Comilla, four in Sylhet, 42 in Rangpur, 378 in Dinajpur, 223 in Nilphamari, 17 in Kurigram, nine in Thakurgaon, 108 in Lalmonirhat and 21 in Gaibandha district.
The minister told parliament that the abandoned houses were allocated only to martyrs and wounded freedom fighters. “There is no provision of allocating those house to any helpless people.”
