State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid yesterday said the country’s gas reserve will last till 2031 if the use of it remain the same as it is now.
He told parliament that the current gas reserve as of June 2015 is 14.16 TCF. The initial probable production of gas was 27.12 BCF out of which some 12.96 BCF has been extracted till May, 2015, he continued.
“As of May, some 815.98 BCF gas has been extracted in the current fiscal year and if this rate of extraction remains unchanged, it would be possible to use the gas for about 16 years till 2031,” he said in reply to a question at a budget discussion in parliament.
The state minister said now it is not possible to supply gas according to the demand; the demand will go up in the future and the current extraction rate may not be maintained.
