A schoolgirl has died after a portion of the roof of her room collapsed on her in the city's Ahsan Hamid Road area.
The deceased is Abida Arabi Shapla, 15, a class eight student of Iqbalnagar Secondary Girls School and daughter of Emdadul Hakim.
Shapla's mother Soheli Hakim said: “Shapla was sleeping at her room when one portion of the roof of our 50-year-old house collapsed on her around 10am.”
Masud Sarder, station officer of Boira Fire Service and Civil Defence, told the Dhaka Tribune: “Being informed, the firefighters rushed in and rescued the girl around 10:15am.
“Primarily, it is being estimated that heavy rain caused the incident of the roof collapse.”
“She was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared her dead around 10:30am,” said KMP special branch SI Firozur Rahman.
