Update : 26 Jun 2015, 07:04 PM

Chittagong District Administration in a drive demolished 25 risky establishments and sealed off about 75 dwelling houses from the slopes of hills in the city’s Lalkhan Bazar area to avoid possible landslide as heavy downpour is continuing.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) and executive magistrate Ruhul Amin of Chittagong District Administration led the drive at Motijarna Hill of Lalkhan Bazar from 11am to 3:30pm. Staffs from Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel, Power Development Board and Chittagong were present during the drive.

Ruhul Amin told the Dhaka Tribune that during the drive they demolished 25 vulnerable houses and electric, gas and water supply lines of these residences were also cut off.

“We have rehabilitated residents of these houses to Manik Nagor Primary School and provided them dry foods. About 75 houses were also sealed off after cutting water and power lines”, he added.

“We are still urging people through loudspeakers to leave slopes of hills during heavy rainfall”, Amin added.
