Newly appointed Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq has taken over charge of the force.
Gen Belal, named chief of the Army Staff on June 9, took charge from predecessor Gen Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan at a ceremony at army headquarters on Thursday afternoon, reported BSS.
In the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral M Farid Habib and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Abu Esrar adorned the new Army Chief with the rank badge of General at Ganobhaban around 2:30pm.
Terming Bangladesh Army as the pride of all countrymen, the PM hoped that Bangladesh Army would move forward by upholding the spirit of the War of Liberation.
While congratulating the new Chief of Army Staff, she said: "We are victorious nation in our great War of Liberation and Bangladesh Army was established during the War of Liberation.
“I hope that Bangladesh Army would move ahead by upholding the spirit of the War of Liberation."
In reply, the newly-appointed Army Chief said Bangladesh Army would continue to work by keeping intact the trust in the government and constitution as per the guidelines of the prime minister.
