Bangladesh and Russia have expressed satisfaction at the progress made in negotiations and establishment of understanding for the construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

The countries also took note of the visit of a high-level delegation from Bangladesh to Moscow for negotiating and working out the details on a financial credit agreement and general contract for the RNPP, said a press release of the Foreign Ministry.

The issue was discussed Tuesday when State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam met Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Morgulov Igor Vladimirovich in Moscow.

In the meeting, both sides agreed to sign an agreement on visa exemption for persons holding diplomatic and official passports to further strengthen bilateral relations

Both ministers discussed the proposed Intergovernmental Commission on Political, Economic, Trade and Science & Technology Cooperation between Bangladesh and Russia.

The Bangladesh side conveyed the government’s decision in principle to sign the agreement with minor adjustments to the scope of the agreement.
