Nine people have received burn injuries in a fire that broke out at Gouripur Bazar under Daudkandi upazila in Comilla.
Witnesses said the fire originated from a electric short circuit at the shop of Saudia Refrigerator and soon engulfed the nearby shops on Tuesday night.
They said eights shops were gutted in the fire.
Daudkandi OC Mohammad Abu Salam Mia said: “On information, two units from Daudkandi and Hemna fire service went to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 8:30pm, after a frantic effort of two hours.”
He said: “We are assuming that the fire broke due to the explosion of the compressor of a fridge. The injured have been admitted to Gouripur Health Complex.”
