Update : 24 Jun 2015, 06:04 AM

A Dhaka court has placed Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan’s son Bakhtiar Alam Rony on a fresh four-day remand in a case filed over killing two people on Dhaka street.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubur Rahman Wednesday passed the order, rejecting Rony's bail plea.

Earlier on Sunday, DB Sub-Inspector Dipak Kumar Das, also investigation officer of the case, filed a petition with another Dhaka court, seeking 10-day fresh remand of the accused.

The court fixed Wednesday to hear the petition. Rony was earlier placed on four-day remand.

On April 13, Rony, who was in a drunken stupor, opened fire from his car indiscriminately near Dilu Road leaving two people — rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and daily Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yakub — injured.

Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 15 while Yakub died on April 23.

Hakim’s mother Monowara Begum filed the murder case with Ramna police on April 15.

Rony’s driver Imran Fakir made a confessional statement on June 1. Rony was arrested based on his information and later taken into police custody for interrogation.

On June 17, Kamal Mahmood, a friend of Rony, gave a judicial statement in the case.

Later, two more friends of Rony told a Dhaka court that Rony had fired five bullets at New Eskaton that killed two persons.

Tiger Kamal and Md Jahangir Hossain, who were in the Prado jeep during the incident, told the court that Rony had been under the influence of alcohol when they were going to Dhanmondi from Moghbazar.

Rony was annoyed with the tailback created in front of the road near Dilu Road around 1:45am, ahead of Pohela Boishakh, and fired five shots from the jeep indiscriminately, they said.

Metropolitan magistrate Md Nuru Miah recorded their statements.
