The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police has arrested four suspected human traffickers from the capital's Motijheel area.
The detainees are Mohidul Islam, 45, Md Himmot Ali, 38, Md Russell, 23, and Ujjal Khan, 20.
CID Dhaka Metropolitan Special Police Super Abdul Kahar Akand told the Dhaka Tribune: “Acting on a tip-off, the CID members conducted a special drive in between 1am and 2am Monday.
“The CID team picked four members of the seven-member human trafficking gang up. However, three persons, including the ring leader of the criminal gang, Tipu Sultan, managed to flee the scene.”
The CID members have recovered 850 passports, 40 fake certificates and a large number of fake document making materials, said the CID official.
The law enforcers also rescued four trafficking victims—Ashraful, Ali, Azad and Saiful-- during the drive.
A case has been filed against the detainees on Tuesday afternoon.
“The criminals have been kept in CID custody. They will be handed over to the police in one or two days,” added Abdul Kahar Akand.
