More than 150 buses of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) are out of order, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday.
“Now, 158 BRTC buses are out of order. Those buses are waiting to be declared beyond repair, as the fixing work would not be economically viable,” he said in reply to a question in parliament.
The minister also said 205 BRTC buses were either torched or vandalised during the political violence. “Currently, 295 BRTC buses including the 205 damaged ones remain under repair,” he said.
Obaidul said the procurement of 300 double-decker buses, 100 articulated buses and 500 trucks was under way. The minister said that at present, there are 1,670 vehicles in the BRTC convoy; of these, 1,532 were buses and 138 were trucks.
