Illegal structures on government pond

Update : 23 Nov 2016, 01:26 AM
According to local sources, the resort is filling up the pond on 3.5 acre land and set up three-layer fences around it. A building has been constructed on the pond which part has been already filled up with earth. Advocate Shamsul Alam Prodhan, secretary of Gazipur Bar Association, said the pond was given lease by the district administration. But Colonel Mujibur Rahman, father-in-law of the daughter of Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, filed a case in 1989 with a Gazipur court claiming the pond of his own. After examining the records, the court dismissed the demand of Rahman. The court also declared that the pond was government property and people in the area could use it. Public Prosecutor Amzad Hossain Babul said Rahman filed another case with the Second Judicial District Court. The court also issued a stay order on the land. Rahman then appealed to the High Court prying justice. The HC hold the case for a year. Locals said Rahman meanwhile made fake papers with the help of the officials of land office and the Green View authorities took the land from him by a power of attorney. Masum Reza, upazila assistant commissioner (Land), said he had informed the incident to the deputy commissioner and officer-in-charge of Sreepur police station. When contacted, OC Asaduzzaman said no body informed him about the filling up of the pond.
