Kazi Food Industries Limited, one of whose brands Za 'n Zee is the title sponsor of the ongoing Bangladesh-India cricket series, has requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board to take action against unethical practices by a competitor.
The request was put forward in a letter dated June 18, 2015, signed by Kazi Food Industries Limited (KFIL)'s CEO Tanvir Haider Chaudhury, sent to BCB Chairman Nazmul Hassan.
The letter reads: “To our utter dismay, we noticed that the BCB Broadcast Partner Gazi TV, to promote the aforesaid 'Za ‘n Zee Ice Cream Cricket Series,' is airing a promo/audio visual, which is sponsored by a competing brand.
“The said promo does not appear to acknowledge the title ‘Za ’n Zee Ice Cream Cricket Series’ too, thereby depriving the Title Sponsor of its exclusive right to be referred by the said title ‘Za ’n Zee Ice Cream Cricket Series’, and hence denies us the much-desired publicity,” it reads.
The letter says that this is an unethical and unlawful practice, as it is clearly a planned effort by a third party to associate itself indirectly with an event.
The KFIL says that such an unlawful practice is an absolute violation of International Cricket Council (ICC)'s rules and the same rules apply to BCB as well.
Copies of the letter were also sent to Kazi Inam Ahmed, chairman, marketing and commercial of BCB; Aman Ashraf Faiz, CEO of Gazi TV; and Kazi Zahin Hasan, director of Kazi Farms Group.
