It should be to no one’s surprise that Jurassic World has had a record breaking opening in its franchise in over two decades. Just like the menacing dinosaurs of the film, this Chris Pratt starer may be rampaging through its second week. The current record holder for week two is The Avengers with $103 million in the US. For the time being the movie is on pace to beat the current record, but might get side swiped by the new Pixar family film, Inside Out. Now, that is something those superheroes didn’t have to deal with.
Unfortunately for Universal, the new Pixar release could be the deciding factor in breaking the record or simply coming close. However, Jurassic World has stunned movie-goers as it scored the biggest global debut of all time last weekend with $524.4 million. From its release last weekend to midweek, the film has now garnered a worldwide total of $690.3 million. It’ll pass the $1 billion mark soon enough.
But according to Rentrak here is the top list of the highest second outing in history:
The Avengers (2012) - $103 million
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2013) — $77.7 million
Avatar (2009) — $75.6 million
