Bangladesh move up in ICC ODI ranking

Update : 19 Jun 2015, 12:33 PM

Bangladesh reaped the rewards for their commendable performance in the 3-match ODI series against India and moved up the ladder to be ranked number 7.

International Cricket Council published their updated ranking after the Tigers' brilliant win over India by 79 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.

Bangladesh set the mammoth 307 run target for India and packed the visitors India for 228 to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

The win took Tigers' side past West Indies in the ODI team ranking. Earlier, both the teams had 88 points. But, after the win, Bangladesh have climbed to 91 points.

A 3-0 series win against Pakistan recently, followed by a commendable performance in the ICC World Cup 2015, saw the Bangladesh Tigers moving ahead of Pakistan by 1 point, leaving the former World Champions to be ranked No 9 for the first time.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2017, which will be played in June 2017 in England, will feature the top 8 ranked teams as per the cut-off date of September 30, 2015.

Bangladesh will qualify for the competition if they retain their place in the top eight until September 30 this year.

Bangladesh moving to 7th place certainly raises the prospect for the Tigers to qualify for the event for the first time.

This updated table has now turned the race to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2017 to be a heated one as only 1 point separates the 3 teams ranking 7, 8 and 9 in the ICC One Day Ranking.
