A former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League has been picked up allegedly by the Detective Branch (DB) of Police.
Sohel, former VP of BCL's Morapara University College unit, was picked up allegedly by DB Police around 4am on Thursday.
However, DB denied the claim of Sohel's family.
Sohel's family members claimed that some plainclothes men identifying themselves as DB personnel picked up the former BCL leader from the home of his relatives in Jatrabari around 4am.
Sohel's brother-in-law Opu said: “DB police entered the house and beat up Sohel and the people residing there in the early hours of the day. They also beat up some of the neighbours along with the house inmates for giving shelter to Sohel.”
Opu also informed that Sohel is an accused in a murder case.
DB East zone ADC Rakib told the Dhaka Tribune: “Sohel has not been picked up by any official of my zone. We have even talked to Jatrabari police but even they did not pick up anyone from that area.”
The family members filed a General Diary with Jatrabari police station in this connection, Opu said.
