An indefinite transport strike has been going on in the district on Tuesday, demanding a halt in reported police harassment and excess toll collection in different bridges.
Sylhet Sarak Paribahan Sramik Union, Truck and Covered Van Sramik Union and Tank-Lorry Sramik Union jointly called the strike that started from 6am.
Consequently, the commuters, particularly patients and long-route passengers, have been facing a tough time reaching their destinations ahead of Ramadan.
When contacted, Sarak Paribahan Sramik Union President Selim Ahmad Falik said the transport workers have already taken to the streets in different areas in the morning in support of their programme and they would continue unless their claim sees the light.
About the local administration's steps, Selim alleged no solution appeared despite repeated appeals to different local authorities including the DC, who has not yet taken any initiative to discuss the matter.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy-Police Commissioner Jedan Al-Musa said no untoward incident occurred centring the strike.
