Gonojagoron Moncho, the pro-liberation platform, has welcomed the Supreme Court judgement that upheld the death penalty to Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid.
Spokesperson of a Moncho faction Imran H Sarkar expressed his satisfaction at a rally in the capital’s Shahbagh on Tuesday morning, immediately after the verdict was pronounced.
Imran said: “We welcome the verdict. We thank the government and the apex court for it.”
“Now we want a quick execution of the verdict, as the execution of these verdicts will establish rule of law in the country.”
The activists of Gonojagoron Moncho also brought out a joyous rally at Shahbagh in the capital.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha Tuesday dismissed the appeal petition of the Jamaat assistant secretary general and upheld his death penalty.
The SC bench sat at 9am and pronounced the judgement at the beginning of the court’s proceedings as the verdict delivery was on the top of the Supreme Court’s cause list.
On May 27, the same bench fixed the date after concluding arguments by both defence and state counsels.
