Police have taken an all-out initiative to beef up security in the entire country ahead of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr.
To ensure free and safe movement for people during the holy month and Eid celebration without any disturbance, police decided to not search any vehicle without prior information.
A zero tolerance policy against all kinds of drug abuse was also adopted and the regular patrolling hours are to be extended until late night.
The decisions were disclosed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque at a press conference held at Police Headquarters yesterday after a meeting with the top officials of police.
He ordered police officials to involve civilians through community policing to increase awareness against all sorts of criminal activities.
The IGP stressed on security measures to reduce the illegal trade of bus and train tickets ahead of Eid.
He also emphasised on security during Eid prayers and mobile court drives to cut down sale and consumption of contaminated food during the holy month.
The conference was attended by Additional IGP Dr Md Jabed Patowary, Additional IGP (CID) Sheikh Hemayet Hossain and heads of different police units, including Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Miah, deputy inspector generals, different government high officials, transport owner association leaders and water transport labour federation leaders.
