3-day ICT Expo begins in city

A three-day Bangladesh ICT Expo 2015 kicked off in the city yesterday.

President Mohammad Abdul Hamid inaugurated the event.  

The aim of the exposition is promote the ‘Made in Bangladesh’ theme in technology world.

Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS), the apex trade body of technology industry, along with ICT Division of the Ministry of Post Telecommunication, hosted the event at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.  

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, state minister for ICT, Shyam Sundar Shikder, ICT secretary, Imran Ahmed, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication & ICT Division, BCS Secretary General Nazrul Islam Milon, ICT Expo 2015 Convener Muzibur Rahman Swapon were present at the inaugural ceremony while BCS President AHM Mahfuzul Arif delivered the welcome speech. 

In his speech, President Abdul Hamid said: “The government is relentlessly working to build a middle-income country by 2021 by materialising the dream of building ‘Digital Bangladesh’.

He said a notable progress has already been made in the field of ICT as the government is implementing various programmes to create people skilled in IT, and ICT-based public services are helping establish governance in the country.

ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the main target of the expo is to represent the sustainable development of flourishing technology industries in the country.

“We designed our exposition in a different manner to bring new dimension to Bangladeshi technology sector.” 

In his address, BCS President AHM Mahfuzul Arif stressed joint efforts of government and private sector to recognise local innovations and promote young minds in technology sectors through the exposition. 

The exposition is open from morning 10am to 8pm while visitors will get attractive offers and prizes. Over 100 exhibitors are showcasing their products and services at the expo with the motto of “Meet the Digital Bangladesh.
