The visiting delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC) at a meeting with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday said their country wants to see political stability in Bangladesh for a meaningful development.
“China had earlier made its stance clear that it wants to see political stability in Bangladesh so that its democracy can be strengthened and development can be meaningful here. China is still on the same stance,” said Abdul Moyeen Khan, standing committee member of BNP.
After a meeting between BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and the CPC delegation, Moyeen told journalists that various issues relating to current political situation of Bangladesh, mutual interests of the two countries, China’s various development projects in Bangladesh and ties between CPC and BNP came up for discussion at the meeting.
The hour-long meeting that began around 4:15pm was held at the BNP chief’s Gulshan residence.
Guo Yezhou, vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC central committee, led the delegation at the meeting.
Moyeen said BNP has a deep relation with China and CPC as they also do nationalist politics like BNP.
Mentioning that BNP founder Ziaur Rahman had initiated the country’s bilateral ties with China, Moyeen Khan said the subsequent governments have strengthened it. “China is our tested friend. We need to deepen ties with the country further.”
Apart from Dr Moyeen Khan, BNP standing committee member Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman and chairperson’s Adviser Sabihuddin Ahmed were present the meeting.
