Update : 15 Jun 2015, 07:11 PM

A Dhaka court yesterday fixed August 17 for charge frame hearing against former post and telecommunications minister Abdul Latif Siddique in seven cases launched against him for hurting religious sentiments of the Muslims.

Metropolitan Magistrate Shariar Mahmud Adnan passed the order following a time petition filed by his counsel Mosharraf Hossain Kajol in the lawsuits.

On November 25 last year, court sent Latif to jail when Dhanmondi police placed him before it his surrender.

Earlier two days ago, the lawmaker returned home from Kolkata amid several arrest warrants against him. In a New York programme on September 28, he made disparaging remarks on Hajj and Prophet Muhammad (SM) as well as Tablig Jamaat.

Later, about 32 cases were booked with different police stations across the country against him on charge of hurting the religious sentiment of the Muslims and the courts issued the warrants.

His comments sparked widespread nationwide criticism and street protests and the government fired him from the cabinet as well as from Awami League.
