A suspected bandit leader has been killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion in the Sundarbans.
The deceased is Md Jamal, 35, claimed to be the chief of Jamal Bahini.
RAB8 Alorkol Camp Deputy Commander Major Adnan Kabir said the "shootout" occurred near Katlar Khal area at the jungle’s Sharankhola Range early Monday when the bandits opened fire on a RAB patrol team.
“In retaliation, the RAB members fired back, leaving one person dead.”
Later, the locals identified him as the chief of the bandit gang Jamal Bahini.
“After the half an hour gunfight that occurred arounf 5:20am, a total of 14 firearms, including a pistol four rifles, two airguns and eight sharp weapons were recovered from the spot,” added the RAB official.
He further informed that 100 rounds of bullets were also recovered from the spot.
