Detective Police have detained six people with fake notes worth Tk40 lakh from Taltola area of West Kafrul in the capital.
The detainees are gang leaders Md Hawlader Sohel, Md Mazharul Islam, Md Alamin, Md Arif Arman alias Nipu, Md Shafiqul Islam, and Md Sohel Mia.
In a press conference at DMP media centre, DB Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam said the six were detained from the fifth floor of a building owned by a Firoz at Taltola under She-e-Bangla Nagar police station.
"During interrogation, the detainees disclosed they have already released Tk60 lakh fake currencies in the market," he said.
He said the gang has been producing fake notes for six to seven years.
"Previously, they used to produce fake Indian rupee, US dollar and euro along with taka," he added.
The DB official said the gang leader Hawlader was arrested on the charge of producing fake notes one year ago. "Later, he was released and joined the gang again."
