Bad weather halts small water vessel services

Update : 11 Jun 2015, 01:27 PM

Barisal port authorities have issued an order to halt the services of small water vessel in all of 36 routes from Barisal river port until further order from Thursday afternoon.

River ports in Barisal region have also been asked to hoist cautionary signal no 2.

The move has been taken following the stormy weather with gusty wind created over south-east Bay and adjoining area, said Barisal port officer Mustafizur Rahman.

He said water vessel movement was halted as weather situation may be deteriorated any time.

However, the triple-deck launches plying on Barisal-Dhaka route were asked to operate cautiously maintaining short distances from the river-bank, BIWTA officials said.

Barisal Meteorological Department recorded 36 millimeters rainfall in the city and surrounding areas from 12 noon to 3pm and drizzle with gusty wind was speeding up to 40 nautical miles per-hour influenced by monsoon weather and the low created over the northern Bay of Bengal, said a Met official.
