People from all walks of life formed a human chain in Barisal city yesterday with a call to make Barisal stadium as international cricket match venue.
The human chain held in front of Ashwini Kumar hall in the morning.
The human chain was organised by Boys of Barisal (BOB), an association of cricket lovers.
Sajjad Hossain, president the BOB, presided over the programme addressed among others by Saidur Rahman Sohel, secretary the platform, Nazrul Biswas, president of Barisal Reporters’ Unity, Swapan Khandokar, senior journalist, Mizanur Rahman, secretary of Barisal Sangskritik Sangathan Samannay Parishad, Bahauddin Golap, secretary of Bangabandhu Shikkha O Gobeshana Parishad and Zakir Hossain, a ward councilor under Barisal City Corporation.
The speakers said Barisal city has a full-pledged stadium named as Shaheed Abdur Rob Serniabad Divisional Stadium located on the bank of the Kirtankhola River.
As regional sports associations fail to arrange competitions, the stadium remains unused round the year.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports can arrange international cricket tournament in the district as the communication systems here is smooth.
After holding the human chain, participants rushed to the office of the deputy commissioner and handed a memorandum to the prime minister and sports minister through administration to press home their demands.
