Sonali, Agrani MDs tenure extended

Update : 09 Jun 2015, 06:49 PM

The government has given its consent to extend the tenure of managing directors of Sonali and Janata banks by one year each.

Officials said the tenure has been extended as the state-owned banks failed to find appropriate persons for their replacement.

Deputy Secretary of Bank and Financial Institutions Division Rajanul Huda issued two separate circulars yesterday on the approval.

The circulars have been sent to the chairmen of the boards of directors of the two banks.

As per the circulars, the boards will follow proper rules of regularisation to re-appoint managing directors Pradip Kumar Dutta (Sonali Bank) and Syed Abdul Hamid (Agrani Bank), who are also chief executives of the banks.

Banking Division officials said the extension proposals now await the boards’ approval. The tenure of Pradip Kumar Dutta will expire on June 16 and that of Syed Abdul Hamid on July 10 this year.
