Anisul: New law to tackle blog-related crimes

Update : 09 Jun 2015, 02:27 PM

A new law will be enacted to tackle the crimes carried out through blogging, Law Minister Anisul Huq has said.

The minister made the disclosure at a discussion in the capital on Tuesday, reports state-run news agency BSS.

Noting that many crimes are being carried out through blogging, law minister said: “The law will be enacted to tackle digital crimes.”

The minister said: “Much have been said about bloggers' positions and identity. Bloggers should express themselves without any fear.”

“The government will take stern actions against the people plotting to harm or kill the bloggers. The killers of bloggers will surely be brought to justice."

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act of 2006 will be amended and modernised, he added.

The discussion titled "Implications for Freedom of Online Expression" at Hotel Sonargaon was arranged by London-based rights group "Article 19."

Three bloggers were killed by Islamic militants in the last four months that sparked widespread protests at home and abroad.
