A construction worker was killed when an abandoned roof of a security guard room housed in the Gazipur deputy commissioner’s residence fell on him.
The identity of the victim could not be known immediately. He was about 40 years old.
Sub Divisional Engineer of Gazipur Public Works Department (PWD) Shawpan Chakma said Gazipur PWD has been working to reconstruct the boundary wall and remove an abandoned security guard room of the Gazipur DC’s official residence for over a few days.
At around 9.30am on Tuesday, some workers were working to remove the abandoned roof.
Suddenly, the roof collapsed and fell on a worker, leaving him seriously injured.
On information, Gazipur fire service personnel rushed to the spot, rescued him and sent him to Gazipur Shahid Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
The identity of the worker could not be known as he was hired from a local market.
It is suspected that the accident occurred due to his inexperience about the work.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Nurul Islam said: “It is just an accident; we are trying to find out his identity.”
He also said: "We would help to bury the body and also provide assistance to the deceased family."
