The members of Rapid Action Battalion have arrested a top leader of newly traced militant outfit Shahid Hamza Brigade from the railway station of the port city.
The arrestee is Khaled Hossain Sakib, commander of white wing.
The Hamza Brigade has three separate military wings – blue, green and white. Each of its wings comprises seven members – all trained up as a “one man army.”
ASP Sohel Mahmud, assistant director of RAB 7 media wing, told the Dhaka Tribune: “Acting on a tip-off, the RAB members arrested Sakib from Chittagong railway station around 7am Tuesday.
“He is now under RAB custody and the process of handing him over to police is underway.”
On April 13, RAB traced the new militant group in the port city.
The group started operations in November 2013 by holding a meeting at a hotel near Foy’s Lake of the port city in a bid to support the tormented Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar.
They were planning to launch an armed revolution in greater Chittagong including the Chittagong Hill Tracts to protest against oppression of the Muslims across the world.
The information was gleaned from the four active members of the group, described as suppliers of arms and ammunition, arrested in a 24-hour-long drive in April.
