A criminal has been killed in a "gunfight" with police at Balaishpur of Chandraganj in Lakshmipur.
The deceased is Mosleh Uddin Jasim, chief of Jasim Bahini.
Police said acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive at Balaishpur around 9:45pm Monday.
Assistant Police Super Junayed Kawser said sensing the presence of police, members of Jasim Bahini opened fire at the law enforcers forcing them to fire back.
Jasim Bahini chief Jasim, Belgium Sumon and Delwar received bullet wounds during the gunfight.
The injured were admitted to Lakshmipur sadar hospital where on-duty doctor declared Jasim dead.
Police recovered one LNG, one foreign pistol and six rounds of bullets from the possession of the criminals.
Junayed Kawser said Jasim was wanted in 18 cases among 30 cases filed against him in different police stations.
