Update : 08 Jun 2015, 03:12 PM

Bangladesh and India will start exchanging enclaves from midnight of July 31.

The High Commission of India in Dhaka released the letters on the implementation of the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) between Bangladesh and India, on Monday.

Prior to the Appointed Day, representatives of the two governments will conduct a joint visit to the enclaves for informing the enclave residents of the protocol provisions.

According to the letters, the government officials will identify the residents who wish to continue to retain the nationality they hold prior to the actual transfer of territory.

The letters state that the respective governments will arrange the travel of the residents who exercise the option of moving from an enclave to the mainland of Bangladesh or India.

The enclave residents will have to inform the relevant district administrations details of the immovable property held by them prior to the Appointed Day.

The documents on ratification of the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) were exchanged between Bangladesh and India on June 6.

Bangladesh Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque and Indian External Affairs Ministry Secretary Dr S Jaishankar exchanged the document on behalf of their respective countries.

Sheikh Hasina, Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee witnessed the exchange of ratification instruments.
