Update : 07 Jun 2015, 08:36 PM

The visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly built Chancery complex of the Indian High Commission in the capital’s Baridhara area yesterday.

He also unveiled the plaque of foundation stones for six projects in Bangladesh funded by the Indian government.

The projects are Kumudini Hospital Complex in Mirzapur, Tangail, building of Education and Rehabilitation for the Blinds, Department of Hindi at the Institute of Modern Language, construction and decoration of a recording studio at the department of music in Dhaka University, construction and decoration of the department of dance in Dhaka University, and India-Bangladesh Friendship Girls’ Hostel.

He also handed over the keys of two ambulances to the leaders of National Freedom Fighters’ Foundation.

Modi, flanked by Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Pankaj Saran and other senior officials, entered  the complex at 9:40am. Some members of Indian community in Dhaka welcomed him with loud cheers and claps.

He was received by two tiny tots with bouquets. The Indian prime minister, known for his knowledge and love for yoga, was seen making fun with children, asking them to make some hand gesture, which made them to try for sometime.

A couple of girls did not let the opportunity to go away and snapped some quick selfies. Modi also planted a Bakul sapling on the complex ground.

He became amused as a little blind girl sang some lines from patriotic song “Protidin tomay dekhi surjo raage” and patted her on the head with compassion.

The Indian Prime Minister also left his security men to scramble for a moment as he decided to give chance to some little children who wanted to take pictures with him. Modi was already boarding his vehicle, when they started pleading to take photographs with them.
