Admiring Modi praises Dhaka Tribune billboard

Update : 07 Jun 2015, 07:41 PM

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday picked up on a Dhaka Tribune tag line in his farewell speech at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

“I saw a picture of a Bangladeshi female cricketer, Salma Khatun, who bravely announced ‘I’m made in Bangladesh,’” Modi said in his address at the conclusion of a two-day visit to Bangladesh.

Dhaka Tribune’s “I’m made in Bangladesh” campaign showcases some of the many inspirational Bangladeshis who are making their mark in their chosen fields.

“I have always attached a lot of importance to girl-child education, which is a key element in empowering women. Bangladesh is a model of women’s empowerment,” the Indian prime minister said.

According to the Dhaka Tribune: “As we commemorate the 44th anniversary of our independence, their stories provide a valuable reminder of the enormous abilities our people have when they are given the opportunity to unleash their creativity and talent.”

The English-language national daily newspaper said the campaign’s objective was both to admire and to inspire. Evidently, as Prime Minister Modi’s kudos shows, it worked.
