Slain army peacekeeper given military honours

Bangladesh Army has given military honour to its slain United Nations peacekeeping mission member Neelkantha Hajong at Army Aviation Group Hanger Complex in Dhaka Cantonment, says a press release issued by ISPR yesterday. 

On May 25, Bangladesh army soldier Nilkantho was gunned down by miscreants in Mali’s capital Bamako. His body was brought home on Saturday.

During the programme, Chief of Army Staff General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan showed his last respect to Nilkantho by placing wreaths on the coffin. Besides, the officers from all ranks gave salute to the coffin as last respect and observed one-minute silence.

In the event, the army chief talked to the elder brother of Nilkantha and expressed his profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Later, the body by a helicopter was sent to his village Vilagora of Dharmapasha upazila of Sunamganj district for burial.
