Modi pays tribute to martyrs, Bangabandhu
Visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tribute to the martyrs of Liberation War and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The Indian premier arrived in Dhaka on Saturday morning on a two-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
UK starts testing Maggi noodles
The United Kingdom will start testing a few samples of Maggi noodles, the popular snack which is facing the heat in India after high lead content was found in few of its sample, from Saturday. The food safety agency of the country will conduct the test of a few samples of Maggi noodles, which includes a particular variant 'masala' which is imported from India, reports NDTV.
Modi-Mamata to hold talks first
Hours after his arrival in Dhaka Saturday morning, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will talk West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee before his official meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Mamata will visit Modi in the afternoon at the hotel where he will stay in Dhaka.
Modi greets Bangladesh in Bangla
After arriving in Dhaka, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweets a greeting in Bangla. "Hello Bangladesh. I bring with me the affection & goodwill of the people of India [Bangladesh, ami amar sathe Bharoter manusher valobasha ebong suvechcha niye eshechi]," Modi tweeted both in Bangla and English.
Manirampur SI shoots himself dead
A sub-inspector of police has allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his own pistol in Manirampur upazila of the district. The deceased is Khan Ali Akbar, SI of Monirampur police station, hailing from Naokhola village under Lohagara upazila of Narail district, OC Mollah Khabir Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune.
Myanmar's Suu Kyi to make first visit to China
Myanmar's opposition leader and Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi will make her first visit to China this month, one of the leaders of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party said, amid strained relations between the two countries. Suu Kyi will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang on the June 10-14 trip, Nyan Win, secretary and spokesman for the NLD, told Reuters.
