Illegal billboards pulled down in Ctg

A mobile court of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) yesterday pulled down nine illegal billboards in Chittagong city’s Sholoshahar area.

The mobile court also fined six advertisement farms with Tk26,000 during the drive.

Executive Magistrate of the CCC Nazia Shirin led the drive at Sholoshahar, Biplob Udyan and Chittagong Zila police office areas.

Nazia Shirin said the court had fined Hologram Ad with Tk10,000, Ad Care with Tk5,000, Ad Valley with Tk5,000, Will Ad with Tk5,000 and Bhuiyan Ad with Tk1,000 for setting up illegal billboards violating the CCC rules and regulations.

Earlier, the CCC asked the illegal billboard owners to remove their structure by May 31, but they did not do so.

According to CCC sources, the corporation has approved 6,170 billboards under 219 advertising farms till June 2013. Of them 3,964 are approved to be set up at the CCC’s own land while the rest are approved for Chittagong Port and Bangladesh Railway’s land.

Taking charge as the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mandal had conducted several drives to evict the 422 illegal billboards as per as CCC list in bid to recover the natural beauty of Chittagong city.

The CMP commissioner conducted the drive against the items on December 6 in last year while CCC and CMP also jointly carried out the drives in January this year and remove some illegal items.
