Gazipur factory fire under control after floor collapse

The fire seven-storey Dignity Textile Mills at Betjur area under Sreepur municipality has been brought under control, 20 hours after the incident.

Earlier, five floors of the factory collapsed around 4am Monday.

Akhtaruzzaman Liton, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service, said they managed to take the fire under control around 11am.

Fire Service and Civil Defence declared the building dangerous and firefighting efforts were stopped 10:20pm Sunday after the firefighters failed to bring the fire under control.

The mill caught fire at the second floor of the seven-storey Dignity Textile Mills around 1:45pm Sunday.

Administrative manager Nazmunnahar Kemu said it was lunch break when the fire broke out in the third floor.

The fire was sensed when the smoke began to pour through the window of the warehouse in the south of the third floor.

Within moments the fire spread to the whole floor and burned everything to ashes.
