Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the pass rate in SCC and its equivalent exams would go up if hartals had not been enforced during the examinations.
The premier made the statement after Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over a copy of the results to her on Saturday morning.
She said: "Students had to face difficulties because of hartals during their examinations. If hartals had not been enforced, the pass rate would have increased."
She also congratulated the students for scoring good results despite adverse political situation.
A total of 87.04% of students have passed in this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations. Some 111,901 examinees have got GPA-5.
Last year, the pass rate was 91.34% and 142, 276 examinees got GPA-5.
The SSC exams starting date was shifted twice within a week from the original date of February 2 to February 4 and then again to February 6, a Friday, due to sudden nationwide hartals.
