A Chhatra League activist has been shot dead in a clash between two groups of the student wing of the ruling party at Ranibazar in Rajshahi.
Five others were injured during the clash on Thursday night.
The deceased is Jiban Sheikh, 22, son of Hossain Sheikh of Raninagar area.
Boalia OC Mahmudur Rahman said: "Rajshahi City College unit BCL President Robin has a dispute with the same unit leader Tuhin over establishing supremacy in the area."
He said Robin called Tuhin over phone to meet him near City College where supporters of Robin beat up Tuhin on Thursday afternoon.
"Later, Robin along with 50 to 60 supporters swooped on the office of Atikur Rahman Kalu, president of Boalia thana unit Awami League, and father of Tuhin in the evening.
Then, both the groups locked in a clash. They also exchanged gunfire during the incident that Jiban injured with bullet.
He was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
