Bangladesh crashed out of the DBBL Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship 2015 after the hosts lost to Nepal by 3-2 sets in their last match of Pool B at the Shaheed Suhrawordi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
Maldives and Nepal swept into the semifinal of the event from Bangladesh’s group while Turkmenistan and Afghanistan earned the tickets for the last four from Pool A as Uzbekistan crashed out.
Turkmenistan defeated Uzbekistan by 3-2 sets in the first match of the day to become the first side to make it into the knockout stage. After winning the first two sets by 25-21, 25-15, they lost the next two sets 17-25, 17-25 before sealing the victory in the final set by 15-11 points.
In the day’s second game, Maldives strolled to an easy victory when they handed Kyrgyzstan a straight 3-0 set defeat and also became the first team from Pool B to reach the semifinals. They won all three sets by 25-15, 25-18 and 25-19 points.
After losing against hosts in their first match, Maldives won their next two matches and earned six points to confirm a last-four spot while Turkmenistan and Afghanistan earned four and three points respectively to get through from Pool A.
The semifinal matches will be held today at 3pm at the same venue.
