When you think of the History Channel, you think of the countless educational programs and series. It’s the perfect place to refresh on your history lessons. However, it’s also a great place to create fictional events inspired by real characters in history. The series Vikings, already three seasons in, is a fantastic and raw portrayal of the Norsemen in 8th century Scandinavia. Think of this show as a slightly toned down version of the Starz original, Spartacus.
The show follows the main character Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), who was the greatest hero of his age. Lagertha, Ragnar’s first wife (Katheryn Winnick), and his brother Rollo (Clive Standen) battle along his side to conquer the lands in the West. The journey shows Ragnar’s rise as the greatest viking of his time, while keeping old Norse traditions and family close. The performances and locations on this show create a more realistic presentation of how life might have been in Northern Europe at the time.
There’s plenty of action and intrigue to keep you hooked to the world of vikings. Better, yet you’ll be able to binge on all three seasons. Unfortunately, there’s plenty to come afterward. Fortunately, there will be no binge hangover.
