The transport strike in Khulna division has been withdrawn after seven days following the assurance of the release of the drivers and helpers who were arrested on May 19.
The decision was taken in a meeting between bus owners and the government at the secretariat on Monday evening.
Khulna divisional manager Abdul Jalil of Shohag Paribahan said the announcement of the withdrawal of the strike came at the meeting.
The buses from Khulna to Dhaka started to run from 8pm, he said.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader met with the transport owners where Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan was also present.
General Secretary of Khulna Bus-Minibus Owners Association Anwar Hossain Sona also said bus strike has been withdrawn.
General Secretary of tank Lorry Workers Welfare Association Mohammad Abul Kalam Kalu said the workers have also withdrawn the strike.
The workers and owners called the strike in the demand of the release of the driver and helper of a bus as they were arrested following a robbery in the bus on May 19 in Faridpur.
