War crimes accused Shamsuddoha held

Police have arrested war crimes accused Maulana Shamsuddhoha from Borodeil area under Moheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar for his alleged crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

Shamsuddhoha, 60, son of late Rowshon Ali of Devangpara village under Moheshkhali, worked with the Peace Committee unit of Moheshkhali as an assistant of its president Moulobhi Zakaria and general secretary Rashid Miah.

Moheshkhali police Sub-Inspector Didarul Ferdous said: “Police arrested Shamsuddoha during a drive in Moheshkhali area around 4am Sunday.”

He is accused of murder, rape, arson and torture committed during the Liberation War.

The tribunal issued arrest warrant against 16 alleged war criminals. So far police arrested seven of them including Shamsuddoha.

The drive will be continued to arrest the others, the official added
