A three-day-long Bangladesh International Tourism Fair 2015 ended at Bangabandhu International Conference Center yesterday.
Organisers and participants in the fair are satisfied with the presence of a large number of visitors that converged on the venue and hoped that the fair would motivate people to travel.
During the fair almost all participated stalls offered discounts and people accepted their offers.
Rezaul Ekram, chief executive officer of the fair, said the 2015 tourism fair was a success and it fulfilled their expectation.
“Our exception was to earn $15m-$20m through this event and already Tk4 crore has been transacted in this exposition. I expect we will fulfill our target in this season,” he added.
Though the fair was arranged to promote Bangladesh tourism sector, most stalls in the fair belonged to foreign tour operators.
In reply to a question on this issue, Rezaul Ekram Bangladesh tourism sector goes though some drawbacks, which need to be eliminated.
He urged the government to remove impediments form this sector and take measures for promotion of tourism sector.
The development of tourism sector should not only be confined to a mere declaration of 2016 as a tourism year by the government, a series of steps need to be taken to improve this sector, observed Rezaul.
He suggested that building infrastructure, creating tourist-friendly environment and visa-on-arrival or E-visa for tourists are key measures to draw tourists’ attraction towards Bangladesh.
HM Hakim Ali, chairman, Bangladesh Foundation for Tourism Development, termed the tourism fair 2015 totally successful.
He said the event would play a vital role in promotion of tourism sector in Bangladesh.
