At least 70 people have been injured in a clash between the people of five villages under Bazitpur upazila in Kishoreganj.
Police and local sources said Wahid Mia of Purba Mathurapur village locked in a brawl with Sanaullah Mia of Shahapur Borobari village after a quarrel among children over bathing in a local fishing firm on Friday.
Following the incident, hundreds of villagers from Koilag, Patuli and Digirpar villages in favour of Shahapur Borobari attacked on Mathurapur village with locally made lethal weapons and firearms around 12:30pm Saturday.
The injured were admitted to Bazitpur Zahurul Islam Medical College and Hospital, local health complex and Kishoreganj modern sadar hospital.
The attackers also ransacked over 100 houses and looted cows, goats and gold ornaments from Mathurapur village, locals alleged.
Bazitpur OC Subrata Kumar Saha said: "Being informed, police rushed to the spot and fired 42 rounds of blank shots, four rounds of tear shells to bring the situation under control."
Police also detained six people from the spot.
Additional police personnel were deployed to avert further untoward situation, said the OC.
