A three-day career workshop titled Career Boot Camp 2015 took place at the EMK Center in Dhanmondi, Dhaka on May 17-19, aiming to develop career and leadership skills among public and private university students.
The workshop was conducted by G Sumdany Don, of Don Sumdany Facilitation and Consultancy.
“Our youth have a lot of potential and not enough guidance to follow the right path. This boot camp will equip these young individuals to achieve their dreams,” Don said about the workshop.
The first day of the boot camp started with the participants learning about the realities of the job market and the importance of CGPA and extracurricular activities. They also discussed how to set goals aligned with one’s personality, interest area and natural talent.
“I was truly lost before I attended this career boot camp. Now I can find what really clicks for me,” said Tahmid Hasan, a third-year student at North South University.
On the second day, participants were taught how to write CVs, and how to dress up for and behave professionally in an interview. Corporate professionals were present at the event to conduct mock interviews, and later provided feedback on the participants’ performances.
Navila Zaman, a first-year student at Brac University, said: “This has been an interesting experience because in real life, no one ever gets feedback on how their interviews went. Today I saw what an interviewer focuses on and what we really need to watch out for.”
On the last day of the workshop, Don delivered his signature lecture on presentation skills and leadership.
Guest speakers of the event included Nafis Ahmed, MD and CEO of Livesquare, Tausif Alam Khan, MD of Vertical Horizon, Hamimur Rahman, HR head at Envoy Textiles, and Rumana Habib, marketing manager at the Dhaka Tribune. They spoke about their struggles and achievements, and all of them stressed on the need for persistence.
The workshop was sponsored by the EMK Center, and its media partners were ColoursFM, Shout and popcornlive.tv. HubDhaka, Omicon group of Industries, GEEKY Social Advantage, Studio Cheesecake, Hifi Public, CriticaLink and YEF were event partners.
