Mahidur-Afsar to die in jail

International crimes Tribunal has sentenced Muslim League leaders Mahidur Rahman and Afsar Hossain alias Chhutu to imprisonment until death for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

The International Crimes Tribunal 2 led by Chairman Obaidul Hasan gave the verdict on Wednesday morning.

Rubel exempted from rape charge

A Dhaka court has exempted cricketer Rubel Hossain from the charges in a rape case filed by film actress Naznin Akhtar Happy.

Judge Tanjina Ismail of Prevention of Women and Children Repression Tribunal 5 passed the order On Wednesday, rejecting the no-confidence (naraji) petition filed by Happy.

Over 100 'boat people' land in Indonesia

Indonesian fishermen brought more than 100 Rohingya and Bangladeshi migrants to shore in northwestern Aceh province early Wednesday, a search and rescue official said.

"Nearly 400 more have been sighted at sea and fishermen are attempting to bring them to land," said Khairul Nova, of the national search and rescue agency. Nova said the migrants had landed in the town of Kuta Binje in Aceh.

Indonesia, Malaysia agree to help boat migrants

Indonesia and Malaysia have agreed to provide temporary shelter to shelter to thousands of vulnerable people stranded on smugglers’ boats between the Andaman Sea and the Straits of Malacca.

Workers' Federation in Satkhira went on a transport strike, protesting the detention of three staff members of a Dhaka-bound bus.

The workers called the strike on Tuesday evening.

Iraq calls for volunteers against IS

Iraq's government has called for volunteers to fight against Islamic State and help retake the city of Ramadi.

A cabinet statement said a voluntary recruitment drive was necessary to fill shortages in squads in the west of Anbar province.
