Tourism fair begins in capital tomorrow

Update : 19 May 2015, 06:42 PM

The three-day Bangladesh International Tourism Fair-2015 begins tomorrow in the capital to promote Bangladesh tourism sectors and build tourism linkages with other countries.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon is scheduled to inaugurate the fair as the chief guest while Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism will attend the programme as a special guest.

Ratan Bhowmik, minister for tourism, Government of Tripura, India, will also attend the programme.

HM Hakim Ali, chairman of Bangladesh Federation for Tourism (BFTD) made the announcement at a press conference held in the capital’s Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel yesterday.

He said the fair will provide scope for booking hotels and their packages and Bangladesh will earn $15m-$20m through this fair.

The exposition will accommodate 135 stalls of several international hotels, motels, resorts, tour operator companies and 55 airlines of 15 countries. Participants from India, Nepal, Bhutan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia and Myanmar will take part in the fair, added Hakim.

Though tourism is an important sector for other countries, Bangladesh does not pay heed to this, observed the chairman of Bangladesh Federation for Tourism.

“We arranged the fair to introduce Bangladesh to tourists from other countries.” The fair organiser urged the government to create easy access to Bangladesh for foreign tourists and introduce a visa-on-arrival programme so that they can visit Bangladesh from India or Nepal.
