Update : 18 May 2015, 08:54 AM

The throat-slit body of a leader of Tablighi Jamaat has been recovered from his house in the city's Sowdagortula area in Sylhet.

The deceased is Ibrahim Abu Khalil, 55, ameer of Sowdagortula area unit Tablighi Jamaat.

Family members said Ibrahim had returned home from a programme of Tablighi Jamaat in India two days ago.

Ibrahim's son Sajid said: “He came home on Sunday night after attending a programme at a mosque in the Dhopadighirpar area and went to sleep in his room after having dinner.

“We found his throat-slit body on Monday morning.”

He also claimed that a laptop and some gold ornaments were missing from the room.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police Assistant Deputy Commissioner (Media) Rohmot Ullah said: “He might have been slaughtered over a family dispute. Several injury marks have been noticed on his neck and stomach.”

“Assailants tied up his hands and legs and murdered him some time on Sunday night,” he added.

The ADC further said Ibrahim had three wives and large land properties. We have picked up his first wife and their son for interrogation, as they were staying with him at the same house during the murder.
