Three siblings have died after inhaling toxic gas in a septic tank at Manartek village under Mahalchari upazila of Khagrachhari early Monday.
The deceased are Prodip Shashi Chakma, a correspondent of the vernacular daily Bhorer Kagoj, and his two brothers Heventu Chakma and Ubhentu Chakma.
Prodip's wife Uzzal Chakma said Prodip lost consciousness after inhaling toxic gas when he went inside the septic tank at their house at 12:30am to pick up his mobile phone that had fallen there.
Heventu and Ubhentu went inside the septic tank to rescue Prodip and also lost consciousness after inhaling the toxic gas.
Later, the trio were rescued by locals and rushed to Mahalchari Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.
Mahalchari police station OC Semayun Kabir confirmed the incident to UNB.
